Survey Writing Tips

Creating a Survey That Works

Creating a survey that will get you the right answers is an art and requires a level of expertise.

Initial Planning Phase

One of the first steps in survey creation is to identify the objectives of the survey i.e. the end results and from there work out the information that needs to be gathered from your survey to meet these objectives.

Identifying the Style of Questions

It is important to work out the most applicable types of questions i.e. single or multiple choice, open-ended or closed to achieve the most relevant results.

Common Survey Writing Errors

Creating Complicated Surveys

Respondents are much more likely to co-operate if the questions are simple and easy to understand.

Creating Long Surveys

Every question in the survey should have a specific purpose.
